What about comments from before the automation?
Replier does not DM everyone who commented before the automation existed. Here is what Meta allows, and the two ways Replier can still reply.
Meta lets you send one private reply per comment, within 7 days. For older comments, post a public reply asking people to comment again or DM you; Replier's one-time automation does that in bulk on a post. Replier only DMs comments it has stored. It doesn't DM people who commented before the automation existed, unless Replier stored that comment in the last 7 days and you choose Send replies or Catch up. It doesn't DM people whose comments it never stored: comments from before the account was connected, or ones Instagram never delivered and the 15-minute check didn't recover.
Why old comments cannot all get a DM
Meta lets an Instagram account send one private reply to a comment, and that reply has to go out within 7 days of the comment. A comment older than that cannot receive a DM through the private-reply API.
For those older comments, the practical path is a public reply under the comment that asks the person to comment the keyword again, or to DM you. A new comment is a new private reply, and a normal automation can answer it.
Comments from the last 7 days that Replier received
Catch up lists comments and messages Replier received but has not already handled. A comment can appear within 7 days of the comment, and a message or Instagram story reply within 24 hours. It does not search the whole inbox, and it does not recover interactions from before the account was connected. Open “Catch up”, review the list, and select “Reply to” with the number of replies. That sends the automation’s saved replies — the DM, and the public reply when one is saved — and it counts toward the interaction allowance. On the Free plan, that allowance is 100 interactions a month.
Replier may also show a prompt titled “Reply to recent matching comments?” when you turn an automation on, save it after adding a specific post or changing its keywords, or resume one that targets a specific post (“Resume automation”). It only lists matching comments Replier already stored in the last 7 days, on that specific post, that have not been replied to. “Send replies” sends that automation’s saved replies, the same way a new matching comment would. “Skip” leaves them. “All posts” and “Next post” do not open this prompt until a specific post is selected. When a post has more than the batch can start, the prompt adds “We'll start with the first” and the number; that batch is 100 comments per post.
Instagram sometimes never delivers a comment. Every 15 minutes, Replier reads comments on posts an active automation watches and replies to ones it has no event for. A comment is recovered only if it was posted after the automation was added or last saved, after the account connected, within the last 7 days, and at least 10 minutes ago. It covers post comments, not story replies or messages. The public reply and DM go out as usual and count toward the interaction allowance.
Older comments: a public reply, not a DM
A one-time automation runs once on an Instagram post you already published. It sends public replies only. It does not send DMs. Use the public reply to ask people to comment again, so the automation that is already on can DM that new comment.
Start a one-time automation
Open “One-time automations” and select “New one-time automation”. Choose “Reply to comments with a keyword”, then select “Use this template”.
Choose the Instagram post
Choose the Instagram account and the post. One-time automations work on Instagram posts only. Select “Next: keywords and reply”.
Write up to 5 public replies
Add a name, one or more keywords, and up to 5 replies under “Public reply”. That field says: “Posted under each matching comment. No DM is sent.” Select “Find matching comments”. Nothing is sent until you review the matching comments. These replies don’t use your interaction allowance.
Review every matching comment
Replier reads every top-level comment on the post, however old. Replies under comments aren’t checked, and hidden comments are left out. Each person gets one reply, on their newest matching comment. A run keeps up to 1,000 matching comments. If a one-time automation already replied to people on this post, choose “Leave them out”. Wait until the run shows “Needs review”.
Post the public replies
Untick any comment you don’t want to reply to, then select “Reply to” with the number of comments and confirm with “Reply”. Replier posts a public reply only. It does not send a DM. Ask people to comment your keyword again so a normal automation can DM that new comment.
Turn it on before the next post
Select “Turn on automation” before you publish, and put the keyword in the caption. Or set the target to “Next post”: the next published post uses this automation, so comments on that post are answered as they arrive.
“All posts” replies to new comments on every post, including older posts, from the moment it is active. It does not DM comments that were already on the post.
What to do next
If the comment is still inside 7 days and Replier received it, use Catch up. If it is older, use a one-time automation for a public reply. Set the next post up before you publish.

The automation’s saved replies for comments Replier received within 7 days, and for messages and Instagram story replies within 24 hours, that an active automation has not already handled. That is the DM, and the public reply when one is saved. Those replies count toward the interaction allowance. On the Free plan that allowance is 100 interactions a month.

This prompt appears when you turn on, save, or resume an automation on a specific post, and only if Replier already has matching comments from the last 7 days that have not been replied to. “Send replies” sends that automation’s saved replies, the same way a new matching comment would. “Skip” leaves them for Catch up.
Select “Turn on automation” before you publish, or choose “Next post” so the next published post uses the automation. “All posts” answers new comments from the moment it is active. It does not DM comments that were already there.
